This year will be the fourth time Catholic Education Week has run across all South Australian Catholic schools. The key message for schools in the Archdiocese of Adelaide this year is:
‘Thriving people, capable learners, leaders for the world God desires’
At Kildare College we have celebrated Catholic Education Week by attending a screening of the film 2040, visiting one of our partnership STEM schools and continuing to raise money for Project Compassion.
Our Year 8, Year 11 and Year 12 science students attended a screening of the film 2040. The film, produced by Damon Gameau examines what the future might look like in 2040 if we all do the right thing now. The science students will use the information they learned to reflect on the role of science in our society and the pushback scientists often face when Governments are elected with weak climate policies. The Year 8 students are currently reflecting on an environmental issues and how we can raise awareness in our society. Our Justice and Democracy leaders were also invited to the film as part of their role in our college.
As part of Kildare College’s STEM Primary Partnership, Year 9 Student STEM Leaders have also been hosting and visiting various schools to engage students in a variety of workshops. Although the STEM workshops provide an exciting, hands on and student-centred learning experience for the visiting students, this partnership allows our Year 9 Student STEM Leaders to develop their leadership capacity, as well as promoting growth in the General Capabilities. As a Catholic School, this partnership also embraces the foundation of what Catholic Education is, encouraging and viewing students as Thriving People, Capable Learners, and Leaders for the World God Desires.
Finally, as part of Kildare K’s, Pastoral Care classes have been raising money for Project Compassion. Each year, millions of Australians come together in solidarity with the world's poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity. Fundraising together is a great way to build community and show solidarity with people around the world. At Kildare College, we have made chocolate and cakes to sell, shared a lunchtime barbeque and brought in donations for our Caritas boxes.
Loving God, you invite us into your vision and desire for a world in which there is love, justice, peace and hope for all. May this kingdom come to a deeper realisation, and we thank you for sharing your wisdom in your Son Jesus. Bless us with your Holy Spirit that we may be inspired, renewed and anointed to invite all in our school communities to be thriving people, capable learners and leaders for the world you desire.
We make this prayer through Jesus, the giver of peace, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen
