Brigidine Day Celebrations |
What a wonderful sight to behold! The whole college community gathered together to celebrate Brigidine Day, our annual celebration of St Brigid. The day began with a beautiful Mass organised by our APRIM, Enrico Caprioli and officiated by Father Matthew and Father Oswald. Reception students from St Pius X Reception class, local parishioners and members of the Stewardship Council, Kildare Education Ministries and Trustees of Kildare Ministries joined us to participate in the Eucharistic celebration.
The Mass included the commissioning of Kildare College’s new Principal Mrs Tina Neate by the Trustees of Kildare Ministries, Sr Maree Marsh and Mrs Rosemary Copeland, the Executive Director of Kildare Ministries, Ms Erica Pegorer, and Chair of Kildare Education Ministries, Mr Jeff Burn. As part of the ceremony Mrs Neate was given a Bible, an art work, a memory parchment and acorns from our oak trees. These items have special significance to Mrs Neate’s role as our Principal. Please see below for a detailed explanation of the significance of these gifts.
We were blessed with blue skies and a perfect spring day for students to spend the rest of Brigidine Day with their peers in Houses, and prepare food and other activities for everyone to enjoy during the course of the day. A lunch time disco, Festival Faces, BBQ, popcorn, games in the gym, cakes, lollies, hot chips and many other yummy foods and options made for a fun filled and enjoyable experience for everyone. A highlight of the day was K-Factor where we were treated to a showcase of the brilliant talent of many of our students, and some outstanding performances of staff. We are very grateful for all the hard work and efforts of everyone who was involved in Brigidine Day.
As you read this, your daughter is most likely in holiday mode and ready to enjoy a well earned break from the rigours of learning. However if your daughter is in Year 12, these holidays will provide an opportunity for her to complete final assignments, and prepare for exams. It is important that your daughter has some time to rest and refuel her batteries, so she is ready to engage with her learning, for the last two weeks of Year 12.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of Kildare College and wish you and your daughter an enjoyable time over the holiday break.
Michelle Camilleri
Acting Deputy Principal

Symbolism of Gifts |
The Bible is a symbol of the Word will guide Mrs Neate as a leader of our College.
The art work “Woman of Strength and Gentleness” was created by Indigenous artist Chris Crebbin and our Nunga group. It is representative of the land, which is old and holds our stories. The woman represents the love and connection to country and spirit. She is a storyteller who brings people together to keep culture alive. Mrs Neate is now the new story teller, connecting the old and preparing for future stories.
The bowl of acorns connects us with Kildare and the Church of the Oak and with Daniel Delany who planted acorn trees in Tullow. The acorns represent wonderful potential, waiting to spring into life and expression.
The memory parchment included our three founders, Brigid, Nano and Daniel. This will inspire Mrs Neate’s work in the ministry of education.

Reducing homelessness is everybody’s responsibility |
For those experiencing homelessness, not having a safe and secure place to live, especially during the winter months, causes undue stress and anxiety. Currently there are more women and children at risk of becoming homeless than men, with domestic violence and poverty being the main reasons.

Time is the Essence |
There is a story of a young girl who for weeks was trying to get the attention of her father. He would come home from work late, have dinner, then do some odd jobs around the house, and maybe relax a little in front of the TV. One day, the young girl asked her father how much money he earns at work. He thought it a bit strange, but knowing that she wouldn’t really understand the whole concept, he mentioned a random amount of $20 an hour. The next day she asked her mother for her pocket money, which was $10. As soon as her father came home from work she ran up to him and said “Daddy, I have $10. If I give it to you will you come and play with me for half an hour?”
