Zoo Careers Awareness

04.04.19

The Adelaide Zoo holds several Zoo Career Awareness Days throughout the year. The event provides students with information about the range of jobs in Zoos and the training required for them. Students also get the chance to interact with various professionals from a range of departments in their work environment.

These Zoo employees share information about what their job entails and the career journeys they have taken to get where they are. Year 10-12 students are made aware of this opportunity via SEQTA as information becomes available throughout the year. Year 9 students are also invited to attend the event in Term 4.

In Term 1, we have had several students take part in this opportunity to learn more about animal science careers. They all found the experience worthwhile and some shared their thoughts on the experience:

"I really enjoyed when the keepers talked to us about their pathways to having a career in the Zoo. I would really recommend this experience to anyone into animals or anyone that is unsure about their career because it is a really informative day to enjoy at the Zoo."
Brianna Year 10

"The Adelaide Zoo Careers Day was a fantastic day full of animals and information. I loved going behind the scenes to the kitchen and seeing all of the food preparation. I was lucky enough to see all of the food that was prepared for every bird in the Zoo. The day was absolutely brilliant and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in a career working with animals."
