Roving Reporters!

21.03.19

Year 8 Geography students visited several Adelaide Metropolitan beaches to investigate how the natural and human impacts effect our beaches.

During the excursion they photographed and recorded observations of evidence caused by the impacts. At Kingston Park Beach students saw obvious signs of longshore drift which leaves the beach rocky with very little sand.

While at West Beach they saw the sand is much wider and clearer. Here the students reported on how the man-made dunes established by local councils are there to replace dunes removed to build houses, construct roads and create the nearby marina.

To complete the field trip our Roving Reporters then made their way towards Outer Harbour which unlike Kingston Park Beach and West Beach, is a very wide sandy beach. The large marina established there caters for many leisure activities; however, it also impacts the natural process of longshore drift as it decreases the changes to the coastline.

Like all good sleuth reporters – a local shop was found that provided chips for lunch on the marina at North Haven. During this time much discussion took place about their findings.
