From our Deputy Principal |
We gathered as a community last week for our Opening College Mass which was led by Father Mathew and Father Oswald. We welcomed our new Year 7 and 8 students to our community with a small gift, as well as presenting the Year 12 students with their badges
During the homily, Father Oswald spoke to us about knowledge, wisdom and justice. You can gain knowledge about many things: from school, books, the internet, social media and various other sources. You may also know many things about God, but to really know Him, requires us to experience Him. In order for us to experience God we need silence. This means taking time to stop, reflect and pray, so that He can enter into our presence. It is through being present with God, that we really experience Him; a God who can transform that knowledge to wisdom. To be wise is to be able to stand up for what is right, and challenge what is wrong. It is to know when to speak and when to be silent. It is about prudence, right judgement, compassion and justice.
Our Core Value for 2020 is ‘Justice: Making the needs of the vulnerable paramount.’ During the season of Lent, students are reminded to enact this value in their everyday lives by reflecting on those who are vulnerable within and beyond the College gates. As students received ashes last Wednesday they were asked to, ‘Go and make a difference: Live Justly.’ It is a privilege to be part of the Kildare College community, where teachers and students work together to create a place that is built on core values and where everyone matters.
We are nearly at the halfway mark of the term and we are ready for a slightly longer weekend, which will help recharge our batteries and enjoy some quality time with family and friends. Thank you to many families who have attended the various events that have taken place this term. Please do not hesitate to contact your daughter’s PC Teacher or subject teachers if you need further information about anything that happens at Kildare.

Core Value – Justice |
JUSTICE: Making the needs of the vulnerable paramount
Jesus taught us that above everything else in our lives, we need to love and be kind to each other; especially the most vulnerable. Vulnerability takes on many forms. We are called to respond to people’s needs with compassion and empathy. At Kildare, we continue the good work of St Brigid, Daniel Delany and Nano Nagle, who considered education as a right for all, especially the marginalised in our community.

Opening College Mass |
Last Monday, our College community gathered in the Brigidine Centre for our Opening Mass to celebrate the beginning of the school year. It was a beautiful and reverent celebration that centred around our core value of focus this year, ‘Justice: Making the needs of the vulnerable paramount.’ This is timely, being the inaugural year of the Kildare Ministries Living Justice Framework.

New Furniture in Resource Centre |
Providing work areas that are equally conducive to learning and wellbeing is paramount at the College and last year our student leaders selected an array of new furniture that would provide more flexible study areas in the Resource Centre. We would like to thank the Parents and Friends Committee for their very generous donation that supported the College in purchasing the furniture. It has now arrived and it looks incredible!

Striving for success in Year 12 |
Year 12 can be a big year, but the challenge is set for the 2020 cohort to see if they can continue to improve. I have asked the students to think about a goal and their dream for this year. They must ensure that they establish a goal and work towards it – this will make all the study and hard work worth the effort once they achieve it.
