Defence Industry Pathways Program

01.08.19

Year 10 student Mackenzie Dowling was presented with her Certificate of Completion in the Defence Industry Pathways Program at the end of Term 2. She is the third consecutive Kildare College student to complete the course.

The course provided an introduction to computer aided design (CAD) and engineering, as well as an insight into naval architecture and engineering jobs within the Defence Industry.

As part of the course, Mackenzie designed and 3D printed a scale model of an Air Warfare Destroyer. This was modelled after having the opportunity to visit the vessel recently commissioned by the Australian Navy which had been constructed at the ASC Manufacturing Base in Osborne.

Mackenzie juggled a highly technical VET course with her regular Year 10 studies as she attended TafeSA Regency Park one day a week for 20 weeks throughout Semester 1. This has provided her with a range of career options and the opportunity to explore non-traditional career paths for women; all while gaining 10 Stage 1 SACE Credits.
