‘Hospitality’ – Welcoming All

04.04.19

This term, our Year 7 HUMS class have been undertaking a study into our 2019 Core Value of ‘Hospitality’.

Together as a class, we define this value as:

  • Being inclusive and welcoming of others
  • Helping and supporting different people
  • Accepting and celebrating our diversity

Earlier this term, I asked my class to complete a Shield of Hospitality, a task that our HUMS students undertook with enthusiasm and a high level of creativity. Our HUMS class have created fantastic visual displays which explain our understanding of what it means to be hospitable in our daily lives.

We have also studied popular music this term and completed an activity where we researched what is called a ‘sneaky Jesus song’ to make our own hospitality playlist. Our class did a fantastic job at making a playlist and explaining its links with hospitality.

Students put their newfound knowledge and understanding into practice in the wake of the Christchurch tragedy. Here, our HUMS students showed their empathy and understanding of hospitality to write beautiful messages of hope and solidarity in remembrance of those who lost their lives. Our students have truly shown their understanding of tolerance, acceptance and inclusion - values which are entrenched in the Kildare spirit.
