November has been a very busy month with the College hosting a number of key events as well as our Senior Years students engaging in their SACE exams.
On Monday 18 November, the refurbished MakerSpace was officially opened by Mr James Stevens, MP, Member for Sturt. In attendance were Dana Wortley, MP, Member for Torrens and other representatives from Kildare Education Ministries and Catholic Education South Australia. We also welcomed Margaret Rouggos and local Catholic Primary School staff. A class from Year 7, 8 and 9 attended the ceremony, which was held in the Dance Studio and moved to the MakerSpace for the conclusion. Displays of STEM work and the most recent Year 7 Jewellery Making (Project Based Learning) were prepared for guests to view. The Year 9 STEM Primary Partnerships Leaders and our Year 7 students spoke beautifully and confidently about their work.
Year 12 students began their Stage 2 Exams on the 4 November and the last exam was held on the 15 November. This is a bittersweet time for our students as they conclude their academic year at Kildare College, but look with optimism and hope toward the future. We wish them every success in their endeavours beyond Kildare.
Year 11 students began their Stage 1 Exams this week. Next week they will attend Kildare for their Year 12 Orientation sessions and completion of their Research Project. We look forward to seeing them as they begin their Year 12 journey.
Next week is the last week for our Year 10 students whose final day is Monday 25 November when they will sit their Maths exam and are expected to wear full summer uniform on Monday. Students who need to complete their Personal Learning Plan will return to the College.
Year 7, 8 and 9 students will continue their normal lessons until Lesson 5 on Tuesday 2 December when they will continue our tradition of decorating their Pastoral Care Class doors during the afternoon. Each PC door will be judged and a winner announced on the last day of school. There is quite a lot of friendly rivalry between each House for this event. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the last week will involve a variety of activities that aim to further build and strengthen students’ connections with each other. A note will be sent home soon outlining all the activities. The last day of the academic year is Friday 6 December at 3.20pm.
While we are all looking forward to the opportunity of rest and relaxation, we have two more weeks to go. Our Middle Years students are encouraged to complete all tasks to the best of their ability and work towards ending the year with a sense of gratefulness for all that this year has brought. We then look toward the new year with hope and optimism.
