Catholic Ed Week Celebrations

08.06.18
Kildare College used their new Middle Years Philosophy as the theme for Catholic Education Week celebrations this week. Based on the concepts of Challenge, Inspire, Act the staff and students gathered as a community and participated in several activities:

Challenge:
During Catholic Education Week, as an act of solidarity, our students (and staff) were challenged to run or walk 1km per House, to show their support for those who walk kilometers to access food, water, education and health care around the world and to show the importance of the work that Caritas Australia carries out.

Inspire:
The College came together as a community later in the week for the Reconciliation Liturgy; as our Indigenous students proceeded in with the flags it was evident that this was a proud moment for them. The liturgy was both moving and reflective, and the students presented a powerful message. From the ‘Acknowledgement of Country’, the prayers presented by Justice and Democracy students, a moving dance piece by Year 10 and Year 11 students, an identity poem, and bringing proceedings to a close with a wonderful rendition of Follow the Sun, the liturgy was truly inspiring, and an opportunity for staff and students of the Kildare College community to show respect and promote reconciliation across our cultures.

Act:
Acting on the visions of the Brigidine Sisters to be give back to the community, Kildare College is excited to be connecting with the community by hosting a Street Library. Located on the fence of the College, the little library is a box which will contain several books that the community can come and borrow, and return at their convenience, or put back in another little library. They can add to it as well, and recycle books they no longer want or need, sharing books among the people in the community to increase literacy and start conversations.

During Catholic Education Week, our students started painting the Street Library, with a design that was inspired by the stained glass window in the Chapel, incorporating the colours of the 5 Houses of the College.
