Student Safety

02.03.18

The safety of your daughter is our highest priority. Before and after school drop offs are a busy time on the roads with many students walking, riding and using public transport to get to school.

We have recently been advised that fines have been given to motorists stopping in the bus zone on Mercedes Drive. Please refrain from using this as a drop off and pick up area.

A reminder also that the front driveway to access the College Reception via Valiant Road, and the staff car park areas are not to be used as a drop off or collection point for students.

Recently we have been experiencing more congestion regarding cars blocking intersections or obstructing other road users when families have been dropping off or collecting their daughters on the Valiant Rd and Mercedes Drive intersection.

Below are some extracts of the Road Rules that apply to this situation.

Blocking an intersection
You must not enter or attempt to cross an intersection, if the intersection or road you wish to drive into is blocked by other vehicles.

Driving too slowly
Blocking or obstructing other road users is not only discourteous but potentially dangerous. You must not drive so slowly that you obstruct the vehicle or vehicles following you.

Parking
You must not park or stop your vehicle (that is, bring to a stop and either stay with the vehicle or leave it parked) in a way that could be likely to obstruct other road users or be a danger to other road users. You must not stop or park your vehicle: within 10 metres of an intersection, except when parking on the continuing road of a T-intersection opposite the terminating road.

Causing an obstruction or danger
It is an offence to stop or park a vehicle on a road in a position that could:

  • cause or be likely to cause danger to other traffic or people
  • be likely to obstruct traffic on a road.
  • between the BUS STOP or BUS ZONE signs

We sincerely thank you for your anticipated consideration so that we can all work together for the safety of our community.
