On Wednesday 21 February, our Year 8 students travelled to Mylor for the annual three day camp. They were joined by the Year 11 Peer Support Leaders who built on the connections made at the Year 8 Orientation Day.
Everyone involved had an amazing time. The camp is designed to help the students get to know each other, try activities they may not have experienced before and build relationships with their peers. This was certainly achieved! Throughout the three days, the students displayed a positive attitude and enthusiasm for every task. They showed determination, resilience and readily supported their peers in helping them to achieve the set goals.
On Wednesday evening the Peer Support Leaders organised a variety of activities that the students enjoyed immensely. This involved building towers, playing doge ball, newspaper hockey just to name a few. Following that a fashion parade was organised using the latest in newspaper fashion. On Thursday night there was a buzz in the group, as the whole cohort participated in a Quiz Night organised by Mr Carey. Both nights were great fun!
As a staff member, it was wonderful to have the girls working together towards a common goal and to see them encouraging and supporting each other to work through challenges and fears. We are incredibly grateful for all the Year 11, Peer Support Leaders. You did a wonderful job!
To the staff who attended; Ms Steward, Ms Paussa, Mr Carey, Mr Gerrow, Mrs Peek, Mrs Hanks, Ms Neef, Mrs Gauci, Miss Beck, and Miss Groutsch we couldn’t have done it without you!
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the tireless efforts of Ms Samantha Rusanoff and Mrs Kim Thomas for all their work in coordinating the camp, including organising dorm and activity groups, medical and dietary information, liaising with staff and the community, and the list goes on. As a result of your tireless efforts the students were engaged and supported throughout the event.
