Open Knock Out Soccer

07.06.18

Monday Week 5, the Open Knock Out Soccer team participated in a Round Robin Competition hoping to make it to the next round. The games were held at Parafield Gardens High School and as we arrived the previous game between Avenues College and Parafield Gardens High was underway. Parafield Gardens High were eventual winners 3-2.

After a recovery break Avenues College and Kildare College took to the pitch. Kildare College seemed to manage the windy conditions better in the first half and by half time led 2-0, after Alana found the net from a free kick just outside the box, and Monique scored during the field of play. In spite of the comfortable lead by Kildare College at half time, the second half saw a more determined Avenues College. With the wind and a lack of defensive intensity on Kildare’s part, they managed to score from a free kick and soon came searching for the equaliser. With less than five minutes to play Avenues College equalised, and went on to score the winning goal with just a couple of minutes to go. Avenues College def Kildare College 3-2.

With both Parafield Gardens High and Avenues College having a win apiece, Kildare College had to win the final game and win by at least 2 clear goals. After a recovery break the team took to the pitch more determined, and by half time they were again up 2-0 with goals from Monique and Alana. At half time and a chat from the coach reminding them that they had been in this position earlier and what they needed to do to ensure they retained the lead, the team went out far more focused and determined to not let the opposition back in the game. Within minutes Monique had earned a penalty and Alana took the spot kick placing it neatly in the net. The defence held firm for the rest of the game, and Kildare College finished victors 3-0 securing their place in the next round.
