Middle Years at Kildare College

This week Kildare College launched its vision for the Middle Years. Aimed at students from Years 7 to 9, the vision focuses on the concepts of challenge, inspire and act.

The vision responds to our changing world and the challenges, needs and developing maturity of emerging adolescents. It provides a broad, connected teaching and learning program which engenders a spirit of inquiry and fosters creative and critical thinking.

The professional practice of our Middle Years teachers includes rigorous planning and preparation to produce authentic and engaging learning experiences. The General Capabilities of the Australian Curriculum play a significant role in our teaching and learning program which is project based, relevant and challenging. We want to inspire our students to take responsibility for their learning, be positive risk takers and achieve personal excellence.

As a Kildare Ministries school our core values provide the foundation on which we base all teaching and learning. Wellbeing for learning is central and underpins everything that happens at the College. Our focus on pastoral care is explicit, implicit and embedded in all learning experiences. We believe this equips young women to act with a strong sense of justice and compassion.

Director of Learning

An update on the Multi-Purpose Centre

It is all steam ahead on the new Multi-purpose Centre at Kildare College.

It was a hive of activity last week at the College as the pre-fabricated panelled walls were installed for the new Multi-purpose centre. Each with accuracy and precision, within days it was complete. Visit our Facebook page for a first-hand view of the installation of one of the panels.

Its footprint on the Kildare College masterplan is impressive, and we’re looking forward to keeping you up to date as the project commences.

Where did you sleep last night?

Have you ever wondered how people become homeless? Where would you sleep on a cold, rainy, windy night? What would you eat and where would you get the money to survive? Even though we can only imagine what this is like, there are approximately 8,000 South Australians who experience homelessness everyday (Homelessness Australia, 2018).

Drama and English

Our Year 10, 11 and 12 Drama and English students attended the State Theatre Company production of "Terrestrial" at the Golden Grove Arts Centre.

The show explored a range of themes including isolation, acceptance, trust, truth and the difference between our perception and reality. The students were thoroughly engaged in this powerful and creative performance. The students will be reflecting on their experience and understanding on the day, in their upcoming folios.

The Archdiocese of Adelaide farewells Archbishop Faulkner

Last week priests of Adelaide and Bishops of Australia gathered for a funeral mass celebrating the life of Archbishop Leonard Faulkner, Emeritus Archbishop of Adelaide. He served as Adelaide’s seventh Catholic Archbishop for 16 years from June 1985 to 2001.

He was remembered for being a man of the people. He was very much pastorally minded and during his time ensured that all people were given a voice and an opportunity. He was the first Bishop in Australia to give lay women a governing role in the church, and established a Diocesan AIDS Council. He was passionately involved in supporting migrants and refugees, as well as Aboriginal communities within the Catholic Church and beyond. Geraldine Hawkes, SA Council of Churches ecumenical facilitator, remembers him as someone who “felt the grief of any who were marginalised.”

His presence in the Archdiocese will be missed, but we continue to give thanks for his life and the example he set to live faithfully to the message of the Gospel.
